Smart book Roll out in the 1Q of Next Year 2009/12/28 By Yoon, Kun-il New form of mobile devices using ARM process will be introduced in large scale from 1Q of next year. President Kim, Yung-sup of ARM Korea said, “20 companies in the world are preparing for release of smart book. And we will see them from 1Q.” Smart book is new form of mobile devices between net book and smart book and can offer computing functions similar to net book and be accessed anywhere and anytime. It has no distinct features in exterior appearance but is most likely to come in super small PC type carrying small tablet and key board, which is bigger than smart phone and smaller than net book. According to Information Network, smart book will grow beyond net book market in 3 years and local companies are preparing for smart book targeting future market. Kim said, “Already, one company finished development and is considering time of release. Considering local market which is led by window OS, smart book market will be led by overseas.” ARM is the company that is in the core of smart book industry. When semiconductor firms including Qualcomm and Free Scale make mobile CPU based on ARM technology, then manufacturers make mobile devices. Smartbook is based on low electricity technology to have advantage in battery use but as it doesn’t offer window OS for PC, it caused concern of inappropriateness for local internet environment. But smart book industry has strong ally, Google, so it is positive. The details of smart book will be seen Mobile World Congress and Taiwan Computex, starting CES 2010.
