LG Electronics¡¯s Voyager Surpassed 1 Million
2008/04/11 By Yang, Jong-seok
LG¡¯s newly launched touch screen phone, Voyager, surpassed 1 million units in only five months since the launch in North America.
LG Electronics said on April 10 that it sold 1.1 million units of Voyager, which began to be supplied to Verizon in last November.
Voyager is LG¡¯s ambitious model to replace the demand for Apple¡¯s iPhone. It adopted the full touch screen and the qwerty keypad. Considering the initial sales of iPhone, selling 1.4 million units in four months since the launch, the growing demand for Voyager is impressive.
An official of LG Electronics said, ¡°iPhone is being supplied through AT&T, the largest carrier in the US. But, Voyaer is being supplied through Verizon, the second largest carrier in the US.
Considering the fact, Voyager is making a surprising result. We plan to expand the supply of touchphone to AT&T within this year. That will lay the strong foundation for LG in the North American market.¡±
LG Electronics expects that the popularity of its touch screen phones will affect the sales of Vu, its new touch screen phone that it has been unveiled at the CTIA show. Vu offers AT&T Mobile TV service, as well as sharing, instant messaging and HTML web-browsing service.
The performance of Vu will determine the result of LG¡¯s competition against Apple¡¯s iPhone.
