Northeast Asian Countries To Conduct Joint Experiments Of RFID Technology
2005/04/18 By Kim Joon-bae
In the wake of their agreement on standardizing radio frequency identification (RFID) search code, electronic commerce industry associations in Korea, China and Japan plan to start joint experiments of RFID technologies and tracebility in the first half of this year at the earliest.
According to industry sources, the Korea CALS/EC Association (KCALS) is set to exchange a memorandum of understanding (MOU) today in Beijing, China with the China Electronic Commerce Association (CECA) and Electronic Commerce Promotion Council of Japan (ECOM) on such joint experimental programs.
Being a private organization under the China`s Ministry of Information Industry, the CECA is hosting the `China International e-Business Expo/Conference`, the largest e-commerce event in China. The ECOM is a new organization established to promote RFID industry and tracebility in Japan.
After exchange of the MOU, the e-commerce industry organizations of the three Northeast Asian countries will initially form the `e-Commerce Promotion Council` and exchange information on RFID technologies and tracebility among themselves. And then, they will launch joint experimental programs in the first half of this year based on available information.
Experiments will be implemented on production processes of selected RFID appliances manufactured in China based on components supplied by Korea and Japan. The three organizations will select RFID products and their makers for experiments soon.
In addition to the experimental programs, the three organizations will make their concerted efforts to promote RFID technologies and tracebility in Asia by jointly hosting and supporting exhibitions, conferences and seminars in the region.
"Implementation of tracebility programs within a certain country carries little value. The three organizations will explore a large number of successful tracebility cases in the region," said Kim Dong-hun, Vice President the KCALS.
